Creative Minds – Conquering Abandoned Land
5 x 30' (ENG, GER, FRE)
A forest, an island, a lake or a whole village - even in today’s densely populated Europe we can find uninhabited and abandoned regions just ripe for the taking.
These unscathed forgotten pieces of land, typically found adjacent to regular trodden paths, are being revived in innovative new ways. They are like blank untouched canvases waiting to become magnificent pieces of art. The series tracks the journeys of dedicated young people, who have reconquered a piece of Europe with their creative concepts.
Some regions of Europe are still uninhabited or have been completely abandoned by humankind. Plus, political changes, among other things, have massively affected the countryside. But these happenings have given us the chance to trendily and creatively build new living environments and cultural areas. In a time when land prices are exploding, these nearly forgotten, nondescript places offer interesting opportunities to rediscover the regions fitting them for a new way of living and working.
From the cultivation of the biggest European primeval forest in the Rumanian Carpathian Mountains, to a wandering shepherd in the mountains of Northern Spain, a surfing school at a former industrial site and the establishment of a community on a formerly isolated island- all over Europe people are giving areas a new purpose. The documentary series is an expedition to these special regions. First we explore the unique landscapes, and then we tell the stories of the people who repurposed and relaunched these forgotten territories into modern society.
