Corona has changed our lives and sense of time. On March 9th, Italy declared the entire country as a restricted zone. On March 16th, Germany went into Lockdown. It all seems so long ago. The documentary traces 30 days of the pandemic – using footage filmed by protagonists all around the world with their mobile phones. They recount their extremely personal stories of their everyday life in the form of a global video diary: the nurse at the Corona station in Spain, the virus researcher in France, the truck driver in Germany, the photographer in Iran, the student in China, the construction worker in India, the young girl in the refugee camp in Greece, the activist in Sao Paolo, and the delivery boy in New York.
What can you do when nothing works anymore, when shops and offices are closed, streets are empty, or entire cities quarantined? How can you handle the fear, the uncertainty, the boredom, the dissatisfaction when friends are no longer available? Your mobile phone is always by your side. People entrust their thoughts to it, and with it, they document the drastic changes. We experience what lies beyond the facts: the emptiness, the fear of infection, and the uncertainty regarding employment. Even the worry of what will exist after, such as their homes, their streets, or their entire city. The “big world” reaching into the small one, influencing it with news, decrees, and changes. We take part in the newly discovered togetherness – the small signs of hope. CORONA DIARIES is a personal and authentic documentation of this fast-paced global event.
