For hundreds of thousands of years pygmies lived on the island of Flores - amidst gigantic birds, overgrown rats and giant snakes and komodo dragons.
It was a volcanic eruption 14,000 years ago that destroyed this fantasy like world. To date, the Komodo dragons and myths have survived in the memories of the population. Plus excavations have brought sensational things to light. In prehistoric times, this island group in the east of Indonesia was cut off from the large land mass by deep sea trenches. But most interesting is that evolution took a completely different form here than in the rest of the world.
