But, since the former US president Barack Obama lifted several sanctions against Cuba, it seems as though the icy relationship between the United States and the Latin-American country has begun to thaw. The government approved plan for the economy put forward by Raúl Castro is still in effect. But socialism is crumbling.
Since recently, Cuban natives are able to purchase residential properties and establish private companies in the former restrictive state. Furthermore, the relaxing of the former tension based relationship with the US has resulted in a massive increase in the number of tourists visiting the island and foreign businesses are now allowed to take part in big projects in the hotel trade. Nevertheless, the government is a pervading force in almost every venture in the country.
