Creating a Garden of Eden
It's a paradise under glass. This small greenhouse is a place of sustainable innovations for our future.
The Tropic House in Tettau in Franconia is both a small park for visitors and employees and at the same time a modern research project. The University of Bayreuth has created a tropical environment through waste heat from industry, which enables the cultivation and breeding of tropical fruit, vegetables and fish. Exotic food from their own garden saves thousands of tons of CO2 and also inspires the region's star chefs.
We accompany Ralph and Katrin who nurture and care for plants and fish from regions across the world in a pilot project to test the limits of preservation. They are especially proud of their success in breeding papayas and tomatoes, unfortunate however, is that they can only be sold exactly where they have been harvested. But chefs from near and far will not be thwarted. One special chef has taken on the journey to acquire these rarities, test their quality and see what magic could be made out of them. Will they be as good as the original? Let’s see!
