Abdul, Brian und Farid are stranded in a secluded home for asylum seekers in the small town Belzig in the German region of Brandenburg. Starting from there, they are looking for a way into German society. Their imaginations clash with the Brandenburg people’s mentality on village fetes, in government agencies and night clubs. Instead of evoking consternation, Land in Sight focuses on the unintended humour of those encounters.
Without a secured residence permit the door to a life outside the walls of the applicant’s home is almost impossible in most cases. But they are still looking to find their way into German society, which is finally in their reach. Rose Dittfurth is the dedicated chaperone of the asylum home and the first contact for every new refugee who arrives. To give her fosterlings a chance to establish themselves in Germany, the engaged woman often takes unconventional tracks. For the period of one year we accompany the protagonists on their search for contacts, education, work, sense of self, love and the long awaited right to stay. At local authorities, town festivals and discotheques, their expectations of Germany clash with the peculiarities of the German society. Instead of evoking consternation, Land in Sight focuses on the unintended humour of those encounters.
