Bear Tracks - Adventuring Canada

2 x 45' (GER)
This journey takes us into the wild heart of Canada. The banks along the Yukon are a paradise for those who have turned their backs on mainstream life.

Yukon gold diggers are still coming here, guys like Dave with his wild beard, blue eyes and a big dream of unbounded freedom. This documentary describes a fascinating journey over many weeks through the second largest country on earth. A multifaceted country full of surprises and diversity.

Dorian earns his living as a ranger. With his family, he built a log cabin in the wilderness. They have no electricity or running water. His son Jack is his mother's only student. Yukon gold diggers are still coming here, guys like Dave with his wild beard, blue eyes and a big dream of unbounded freedom. The last stage of the journey takes us to Haida Gwaii Island, the Pacific island in the very west of Canada. The residents here are from the Haida tribe and are no longer called "Indians" in Canada. After long years of dispute, they are now officially called the "First Nations": they were here first after all and have been for about 10,000 years. To this day, they are fighting for their traditions and their forests which they are trying to protect from logging firms. They are also erecting totem poles again in keeping with their ancient traditions. This documentary describes a fascinating journey over many weeks through the second largest country on earth. A multifaceted country full of surprises and diversity.
