This documentary tells the story of the daring rescue of a unique World Cultural Heritage.
When jihadists conquered the North of Mali in March 2012, they destroyed 14 mausoleums of holy Marabous and burnt more than 4.000 valuable historic manuscripts of the former University City, Timbuktu.
Whether it's Buddha statues in Afghanistan, Assyrian sculptures in the Museum of Mosul, the Ruins of Nimrod, the Temple of Palmyra – when Islamist take over a territory they tend to destroy anything that does not match their religious-fundamentalist image of the world. However, due to the courageous actions of Abdel Kader Haidara, most of the around 300,000 handwritings were saved and brought to safety.
