Theo's Wildlife
Europe’s cultural landscape offers a surprising variety of wild animals. But a lot of these species are either endangered or extinct.
A zoo director breaks new ground: Theo Pagel, renowned zoologist and long-time director of the Cologne Zoo tries to find out whether zoos can aid in the quest to save endangered species or if such rhetoric is merely a form of PR campaign for the zoos. To clarify this, he sets off to Vietnam and Laos and visits conservation projects for monkeys, reptiles, bears and elephants. But he also dedicates himself to local wild animals like lynxes and the common hamster.
On his quest, Theo discovers a programme in Andalusia that helps to further his cause. This programme is bringing back one of the rarest wildcat species, the Iberian lynx. Will the returned animals be able to hunt on their own and find their natural way back into the wild?
