They had to flee Europe. All six of them, one after the other. The destination: The United States of America. All six later became world renown and, with their inventions and groundbreaking works, changed the course of 20th century history. None of them were willing to give up Europe without a fight.Two worlds, one driving force - The two main currents of the 20th century, the natural sciences and the new visual arts of film and photography, came to bear the imprint of these six men.
The protagonists: The producer of Casablanca, Michael Curtiz, world famous war photographer, Robert Capa, mathematical genius, John von Neumann, physicist and molecular biologist, Leó Szilárd, Nobel prize winner, Eugene Wigner and the "father of the hydrogen bomb", Edward Teller.
Between 1919 and 1926, the six young men were forced to leave Budapest; the families knew each other, they were personal friends. They all spoke several languages and lived middle-class European lives: cosmopolitan and tolerant. But when the first wave of anti-Semitism broke over Hungary and the Nazi regime’s racist media began to take root, these young men were suddenly thrown from their free-thinking cocoon. Throughout their lives the path of these men kept crossing. They joined forces as men who swore not to watch passively while the ideals of their youth were being destroyed.
