To the ballots: on April 16th,2017 Turks from all over the world headed to the ballot boxes to vote for a change to Turkey’s constitution – President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wants more power.
Since the attempted coup in the summer of 2016, he has set all his efforts into “bringing the country back into line” apart of which involves convincing the Turks living in Germany to agree to his mandates. But what consequences has Erdogan’s system already yielded and will yield in the future? Has anyone been taking stock?
The wheels have been set in motion. Now it is about convincing the Turks living in Germany to agree to his mandates. The 1.4 million Turks living in Germany have become important to Erdogan’s political party and the vote on making a constitutional change. But what consequences has Erdogan’s system already yielded and will yield in the future? More and more Turks are fleeing the Erdogan regime in Turkey to Germany, many of which are University graduates. With the academics fleeing, what does the future hold for the country? What hopes do the Turks in Germany have of one day returning home? And what are they expecting from German politics? Erdogan's Power is a stocktaking of the results of what has already occurred.
