Operation Sea Watch II - The Rescue Continues

45' (GER, ENG subs)

The number of fatalities was a call to duty; the catastrophe, an inspiration and with meagre funds they saved the lives of many.

They couldn’t just sit back and relax while thousands of refugees die in the Mediterranean Sea. So the founders of Sea Watch decided to buy an old fishing boat. This decision changed their lives in many ways. In the first year they saved more than 2,000 lives and now they have decided to expand. They have bought a bigger ship and a micro-light plane to fly over the coast of Libya and improve their search for refugee boats. But rather than making things easier, their expansion has made things more difficult. Now they must struggle with the authorities and face real life threats. Can they continue their mission?

Now a year later, Sea Watch has matured into a more professional organization. As expected, with the new addition, everything has changed. Their expedition periods have extended, the number of crew members has grown and the ship is better equipped to handle medical emergencies. However, they are now confronted with various threats from the coastguards in Libya and the Tunisian authorities barred their plane from entering Tunisian airspace. With news of a rescue ship being boarded by armed men on the coast of Libya, the crew of volunteers is now aware of risk the rescue mission poses to their lives. Will they continue their mission? An exciting film about the determination to help.
