THE WORLD IN 30 MINUTES
Overtourism - Trouble in a Holiday Paradise
30' (GER, ENG subs)
Citizens of popular destinations around the world are protesting against the flood of tourists into their beloved cities.
Although tourism can be beneficial, too many visitors can lead to harmful, unintended effects. Even world heritage sites such as Dubrovnik, or the small town of Hallstatt in Austria are choking under the tourist masses. Many factors contribute to this, such as cheap flights and a growing middle class in India and Asia. The locals in the hotspots are starting to wonder: do they need to have a sterner stance on tourism? Should there be a limit on how many people can visit? We examine the stress of tourism in paradise locations and search for potential solutions.
