E-Cars: Truly the Answer?

45' (GER, ENG subs)

Electric cars are meant to save the environment, and are even praised as "emission-free".

A billion-dollar market for the automotive industry: all manufacturers have launched or already announced e-offensives. And for the communities plagued by exhaust fumes, electric cars represent a solution out of impending driving bans. But is that true? Are electric cars really the way to save the environment? Our film seeks to find the answers to these questions. The largest component of an electric car is the battery, which is also the most harmful piece to the environment. The need of containing the lithium needed destroys fragile ecosystems in South America and robs the local population of land and water. The authors conduct research on site and show the effects of the lithium boom: an ecological and human catastrophe, accepted for the "zero-emission car" in Europe.
