Now, tourists with vacation packages booked to Turkey are changing their minds at the last minute and the booking rates have declined by 40%. People are running scared - tourism in Turkey has collapsed. But many of the natives are dependent on tourism for their livelihood. Watch to see the effects terror and the refugee crisis have had on Turkey and how the people who live from tourism cope with the changing times.
Come with us on our visit to Antalya. Usually the historic centre is chalked full with tourists trying to navigate their ways through the narrow alleys, but this year it’s a ghost town. Several hotels are closed due to lack of bookings and the same is happening at the coasts. The all-inclusive-hotels are practically vacant and the beaches are far from crowded. Now there are fewer jobs available. To make matters worse, the refugees who are living in the outback are standing on the sides of roads waiting for the occasional job. Discontent is rising. Countries like Italy and Spain are the benefitting from this crisis. But what is to happen to Turkey? Tourism is a major part of the Turkish economy. Turkey, the country that is supposed to help Europe with its refugee crisis, is now stuck in a deep economic and social crisis.
