Heavenly Voices

52', 90' (GER, FRE, ENG subs)
A portrait of three boys and their struggle to become members of the world famous boys' choir "Regensburger Domspatzen".

The oldest boys' choir in the world is, to this day, still seen as something special and the 60 boys in the choir live amazing lives. They lead normal lives except for the fact that their world includes absolute concentration, world trips and performances for the pope.

Founded over 1000 years ago, the Regensburger Domspatzen is the oldest boys' choir in the world. To this day, a "Domspatz" (cathedral sparrow) is something special and the 60 boys who make up the choir live between two worlds. On the one side, the boys lead normal lives: in their boarding school they are sometimes unruly, they listen to hip hop and have fun like other kids. But on the other side, there is the world of music, of absolute concentration, travels all over the world and performances for Pope Benedict XVI. Matti Bauer's film shows the boys' love of singing, the fascination of music and the striving for the perfect sound. It is a film about a tradition that has given rise to its own rules over the centuries and yet continued to evolve with the times. It is the story of a singular success, which has opened the doors of the world's great concert halls to the Regenburger Domspatzen. There is divine spark in the music of the Domspatzen, and it has often been said that this is what the singing of angels must sound like.
